In honour of Emyr’s contribution to Welsh culture on screen, Cellb (Blaenau Ffestiniog) and Pontio (Bangor) are working to bring a selection of his films to audiences across Wales.
Born in Ynys Môn, Emyr went on to found Ankst record label, helping to shape Welsh music across the late 20th century. This theme is strongly rooted within the films he made, such as Bafta winning Y Lleill. He also wrote Isdeitla’n Unig, a personal journey into the world of international film, which was shortlisted for the Book of the Year Award 2016.
You may know Emyr better from his time running the cinema at Pontio, where we were fortunate to work with him for ten years, in which time he inspired the ‘Off y Grid’ project.
For more information on his films, music and legacy – they are beautifully summarised here by Dic Mortimer.
