Ym mis Hydref 2018, agorwyd Yr Egin yn swyddogol gan y Prif Weinidog, Carwyn Jones AS a chafwyd dathliad trawiadol ar hyd strydoedd Caerfyrddin er mwyn nodi hynny. Canolfan greadigol arloesol yw’r Egin, un y gall Cymru gyfan ymhyfrydu ynddi.

Y Siwrne:

Ym mis Mawrth 2014, yn dilyn proses gystadleuol, cadarnhaodd Awdurdod S4C y byddai pencadlys y Sianel yn cael ei adleoli i gampws Prifysgol Cymru Y Drindod Dewi Sant yng Nghaerfyrddin, yn rhan o ganolfan newydd fyddai’n gartref i glwstwr o gwmnïau a sefydliadau o’r diwydiannau creadigol.

Bu cydweithio agos rhwng Prifysgol Cymru Drindod Dewi Sant, S4C a’r sector diwydiannau creadigol wrth ddylunio’r ganolfan er mwyn sicrhau canolfan a fyddai’n cyflawni’r weledigaeth.

Yr Adeilad:

Niall Maxwell o’r Rural Office for Architecture a leolir yn Sir Gar a BDP oedd penseiri’r adeilad ac mae’r cydweithio llwyddiannus wedi arwain at greu adeilad cwbwl drawiadol sydd yn destun balchder yn ogystal ag yn weithle pleserus sy’n annog cydweithio, cyfathrebu a rhyngweithio rhwng holl ddefnyddwyr yr adeilad

Un o nodau’r Egin oedd gweithredu fel catalydd ar gyfer hybu a chryfhau adfywiad ieithyddol yn Sir Gâr. Mae cydweithio agos rhwng Yr Egin, Yr Atom – Canolfan Gymraeg Caerfyrddin – a Rhagoriaith – Canolfan Gwasanaethau Cymraeg Prifysgol Cymru y Drindod Dewi Sant – yn ogystal â phartneriaid eraill megis yr Urdd a’r Mentrau Iaith er mwyn cyflawni hyn.

Mae Canolfan S4C Yr Egin yn ddatblygiad i’w drysori gyda’r nod o wasanaethu Cymru, tanio ei dychymyg creadigol a meithrin talentau’r dyfodol.

Canolfan S4C Yr Egin is located in the oldest town in Wales and within a 90 minute journey to around 65% of all Welsh speakers in Wales. In October 2018 the centre was opened by First Minister Carwyn Jones AM and there was a celebratory parade through the streets of Carmarthen. Yr Egin is a creative centre, one the whole of Wales can be proud of.

Their Journey:

In March 2014, following a strong competitive process, the S4C Authority confirmed that the Channel’s headquarters would be relocated to the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s campus in Carmarthen as part of a new creative centre – Canolfan S4C Yr Egin – home to a cluster of companies and organisations from the creative industries.

Building Design:

There was close collaboration between UWTSD, S4C and the creative sector during the process of designing the building to ensure a space was created where the vision could be realised. Rural Office for Architecture and BDP were the architects and the successful partnership has given rise to a contemporary landmark that is a fantastic workplace supporting collaboration, communication and networking between all occupants.

One of the aims of establishing Yr Egin was to act as a catalyst for promoting and strengthening the regeneration of the Welsh language within Carmarthenshire. There’s close collaboration between Yr Egin, Yr Atom – Carmarthen’s Welsh Centre – and Rhagoriaith – University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s Welsh Language Services Centre – as well as other partners in order to achieve this.

Canolfan S4C Yr Egin is a landmark development, serving its community and ignitniting Wales’ creative future.
