‘The Road of Excess’ is a film that talks about toxic masculinity, mental health, addiction, fame and what happens when it’s gone. The film explores these themes through the eyes of ex-Dirty Sanchez star Mathew Pritchard and his attempt to row the Atlantic. It’s a film full of humour, friendship, and insight into the culture of fame.
Since the days of his Dirty Sanchez fame, Mathew now finds redemption through sport and fitness, swapping “one addiction for another”. The story kicks off as Mathew prepares to row across the Atlantic in search of meaning, but what is driving him to do this and will isolation at sea for seven weeks be the panacea he’s looking for?
Mathew’s revisits his three co-stars from Dirty Sanchez; Dan, Dainton and Pancho, as well as his Mum and best mate Aide. Giving their perspective on Mathew, each has a story that reveals something about the journey they’ve all been on together, and each is dealing with their issues in their own way.
