Fires of the Moon (Tanau’r Lloer): The Whole Story

Premiering on 14th November 2025, Fires of the Moon/Tanau’r Lloer is a striking fusion of opera and cinema. Inspired by moments from Caradog Prichard’s modern classic novel Un Nos Ola Leuad and with a hauntingly beautiful score, performed by the Welsh National Opera.

1950s A writer receives news that takes him on a melancholy train journey back home. As he travels through the night, memories resurface, forcing him to reflect on events that led to his mother’s confinement in an asylum some thirty years earlier.

Inspired by scenes from the classic of Welsh literature, “Un Nos Ola Leuad”, and with a hauntingly beautiful score, performed by the Welsh National Opera Orchestra, this Welsh-language opera film is a genre-bending exploration of grief, memory, mental illness and the power of artistic creation.
