Put yourself in the picture as a Young Film Ambassador with the Torch Theatre

Are you aged between 14 to 18, with a passion for cinema and a desire to learn more about different aspects from across the film industry? This week, Milford Haven’s Torch Theatre have launched a fresh new scheme for teenagers from across Pembrokeshire who are interested in or have a passion based around film and cinema.

Commencing from the end of March 2021, the Torch Theatre Young Film Ambassadors scheme is an unmissable opportunity for teenagers to experience film in a fun and educational way; become a budding film critic, meet like-minded people and to make new friends. You will discuss and review films with your peers, get your reviews seen, and sharpen your skills as a reviewer as you explore writing and vlogging as part of the project. 

As a Young Film Ambassador, this exciting, interactive project offers you the opportunity to watch and review current British, independent and blockbuster films. You will find out more about film with filmmaking and film studies digital workshops, with guest speakers and special presentations from industry insiders and creatives on aspects from production to publicity. Access to the films will initially be through digital streaming platforms, and then back on the big screen once the Torch is fully reopened.

The Torch Theatre’s Young Film Ambassadors scheme has been made possible by National Lottery funding distributed by Film Hub Wales, through the BFI FAN Film Exhibition Fund which was awarded to the Torch in the Autumn of 2020.

The Young Film Ambassadors scheme is a fantastic opportunity for budding film enthusiasts to learn more about films and cinema from across different aspects of the industry. We will initially run the scheme online until it is safe to return to the Torch which will then give a deeper insight into what we do. I would like to thank Film Hub Wales, BFI FAN and the National Lottery for their support in allowing us to create this scheme for our younger audience members in the Pembrokeshire community.

Mae Canolfan Ffilm Cymru yn un o wyth ‘canolfan’ DU gyfan, rhan o Rwydwaith Cynulleidfa Ffilm (FAN) BFI ac fe’i cefnogir gyda chyllid y Loteri Cenedlaethol gyda Chapter wedi’i benodi yn Gorff Arweiniol Canolfannau Film (FHLO) yng Nghymru. Ein nod ydy cyrraedd cynulleidfaoedd trwy ddatblygu’r sector arddangos, cynnig cefnogaeth prosiect ymchwil, hyfforddiant a datblygu cynulleidfaoedd. Ers sefydlu Canolfan Ffilm Cymru yn 2013 rydym wedi cefnogi dros 225 o brosiectau sinema a chyrraedd dros 465,000 o aelodau cynulleidfa 

Rydym hefyd yn falch o arwain ar strategaeth sinema cynhwysol ar ran FAN BFI. 

Am Rhwydwaith Cynulleidfa Ffilm BFI  

Gyda chefnogaeth arian y Loteri Genedlaethol, mae'r Rhwydwaith Cynulleidfas Ffilm BFI (FAN), yn ganolog i nod y BFI i sicrhau bod y dewis mwyaf o ffilm ar gael i bawb. Wedi'i sefydlu yn 2012 i adeiladu cynulleidfaoedd sinema'r DU ehangach a mwy amrywiol ar gyfer ffilmiau Prydeinig a rhyngwladol, mae FAN yn gydweithrediad unigryw, ledled y DU sy'n cynnwys wyth Canolfan a reolir gan sefydliadau ffilm a lleoliadau blaenllaw sydd wedi'u gosod yn strategol ledled y wlad. Am BFI 

BFI ydy corff arweiniol y DU ar gyfer ffilm, teledu a’r delwedd symudol. Mae’n elusen diwylliannol sydd yn: 

  • Curadu ac yn cyflwyno’r rhaglen gyhoeddus ryngwladol fwyaf o sinema byd i gynulleidfaoedd, mewn sinemau, gwyliau ac ar-lein  
  • Yn gofalu am Archif Cenedlaethol BFI – yr archif ffilm a theledu mwyaf arwyddocaol yn y byd 
  • Yn chwilio am y genhedlaeth nesaf o wneuthurwyr ffilm ac yn eu cefnogi,

About the Torch Theatre

Fe fydd Theatr Torch was established in 1977 and is one of only three venue-based producing theatres in Wales alongside Cardiff’s Sherman Cymru and Clwyd Theatr Cymru. It consists of a 300 seat Main House, a 102 seat Studio Theatre, a bespoke art gallery, bar facilities and an attractive café – Café Torch. In 2007, the venue underwent a major transformation and refurbishment project to create an accessible, comfortable and attractive place to enjoy entertainment and the arts, complete with state-of-the-art digital cinema technology with 3D capabilities. The Torch Theatre offers over 1,300 shows, films, art exhibitions and live broadcasts annually to audiences in excess of 80,000.

Torch Theatre Company’s highly acclaimed productions, which include an annual Christmas show, are directed by Artistic Director Peter Doran and have included Grav, One Man, Two Guvnors, The Wood, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, The Turn of the Screw, The Hired Man, Neville’s Island, Oh Hello!, The Little Shop of Horrors a An Inspector Calls. In 2015, the Torch Theatre Production Company were double Laurel Award winners for its sell out productions of Grav a Oh Hello! at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. 2017 saw Artistic Director Peter Doran being awarded the Best Director Award at the annual Wales Theatre Awards for the bilingual production Belonging/Perthyn (Re-Live in association with Chapter).

The Torch Theatre is a limited company with charitable status and is a publicly funded theatre supported by Arts Council of Wales, The National Lottery and the Welsh Government.
