The Road of Excess: The Whole Story

© Odelay Films

Coming to cinemas on World Mental Health Day, 10th October, The Road of Excess is a film that talks about toxic masculinity, mental health, addiction, fame and what happens when it’s gone.

To support the UK release, we have created a pack featuring an exclusive podcast discussion with Mathew Pritchard, article by Ian Smith the founder of Helpu – the men’s mental health and suicide prevention initiative for Wales, programming recommendations and assets, including social media clips of both Mathew Pritchard and Director Jamie Jones with copy, all of which exhibitors can share with audiences to promote the film’s Welsh connections.

‘The Road of Excess’ is a film that talks about toxic masculinity, mental health, addiction, fame and what happens when it’s gone. The film explores these themes through the eyes of ex-Dirty Sanchez star Mathew Pritchard and his attempt to row the Atlantic. It’s a film full of humour, friendship, and insight into the culture of fame.

Since the days of his Dirty Sanchez fame, Mathew now finds redemption through sport and fitness, swapping “one addiction for another”. The story kicks off as Mathew prepares to row across the Atlantic in search of meaning, but what is driving him to do this and will isolation at sea for seven weeks be the panacea he’s looking for?

Mathew revisits his three co-stars from Dirty Sanchez; Dan, Dainton and Pancho, as well as his Mum and best mate Aide. Giving their perspective on Mathew, each has a story that reveals something about the journey they’ve all been on together, and each is dealing with their issues in their own way.
