BME Women's Film Club

Organisation: Wales One World (WOW) Film FestivalCaerdydd

The Film Club returned to Chapter with the support of FHW for a season of women-only screenings. Over its eight year history, the Film Club has organised numerous film events and screenings, and drawn thousands of women from diverse communities across Cardiff, to watch, discuss and debate film. The Film Club has also become a popular social hub, providing a space for women from a variety of backgrounds to meet and get to know each other.

Supportive Environment Pilot Screening

Organisation: Contact a Family, CymruCaerdydd

Family film day (showing The Boxtrolls) with creative workshop to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Contact a Family Wales. This free event was open to children with disabilities and/or additional needs and their families.

Stanley Baker, Zulu Retrospective 

Organisation: ChapterCaerdydd

Celebrating 50 years since the release of Zulu. Born in the mining community of Ferndale, Stanley Baker, alongside lifelong friend Richard Burton, went on to Hollywood stardom as a character actor rather than romantic lead. Proving an enduring and powerful presence as an actor and later as a producer, he made some of the great films of the era. Over the summer Chapter celebrated the 50th anniversary of Zulu and paid homage to this Welsh great.

Laugharne Poetry and Film Festival

Organisation: Chapter a Cadw, Laugharne

As part of the Dylan Thomas 100 celebrations, Chapter partnered with Cadw on this unique weekend of film screenings, poetry readings and stop-motion animation workshops set in the beautiful castle grounds that celebrated the legacy of Dylan Thomas.

The Wales Youth Film Festival Network R&D

Organisation: Scala Cinema and Arts Centre, Prestatyn

Development of a core network of Welsh festivals working together to increase access for young audiences to british independent and world cinema, with screenings for families and young people.

Neil Brand, Music at the Movies

Organisation: Aberystywth University

A special weekend dedicated to music from the movies with film composer and silent film expert Neil Brand.

The highlight of the weekend was a screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s silent classic Blackmail accompanied by Brand’s critically acclaimed new orchestral score, performed live by a full symphony orchestra.

Year Round Screening Project 

Organisation: Wales One World (WOW) Film Festival

Developing a year round audience for World cinema at four venues (Canolfan y Celfyddydau AberystwythChapter, Canolfan Gelfyddydau Wyeside, a Theatr Clywd), outside of the core festival dates.
