Rural Community Cinema

Every year Film Hub Wales teams up with Flicks In The Sticks and Moviola to bring togther Welsh rural community cinemas for a one-day training and networking event during Borderlines Film Festival.  

The first event took place on March 13, 2016 at Parish Hall, Hay-on-Wye, along with Cinema For All.

Sessions included:

  • Getting the best out of your sound equipment and acoustics (a common challenge for community exhibitors and film societies) and projection tips.
  • What matters most to rural film exhibitors in Wales? Networking and discussion. What support is on offer?

The second event took place February 26, 2017 at Richard Booth’s Bookshop Cinema in Hay-on Wye.

Sessions included:

  • Innovative Marketing with Rachael Castell
  • Social Media in Rural Wales with Off Y Grid
  • Engaging with the voluntary sector and young audiences with WCVA
  • Community Cinema and Film Society Catch Up

The third event took place on March 3, 2018 at Richard Booth’s Bookshop Cinema in Hay-on Wye.

Sessions included:

  • Young programmers and cinema professionals panel
  • Interactive young audience workshop from Media Active.
  • Community Cinema and Film Society Catch Up chaired by Moviola
