Film came to the National Eisteddfod of Wales for the first time, with a full programme of Welsh language features, special events and archive at the world renowned cultural festival, on 30th July to 6th August 2016.
Sinemaes was located in the drama village area of the Maes, offering a full programme of screenings from the National Screen and Sound Archive, new feature films from Ffilm Cymru Wales and S4C; masterclasses and workshops for all ages and the chance to find out more about working in the film and television industry in Wales.

Tuesday 2nd August: Hedd Wyn, with Q&A and live performance from Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog
Thursday 4th August:The Quarryman with introduction from national poet of Wales Ifor Ap Glyn
Thursday 4th August:Gwaed ar y Sêr (no subtitles) with live performance from H.Hawkline
Sinemaes was part of the BFI’s Britain on Film Rural Life project, which saw the release of over 750 films from 1900 to 1999, many unseen since they were first shown. Hidden histories and forgotten stories of people and places from every corner of Great Britain from the UK’s key film and TV archives are available for free on BFI Player via an interactive map. The archive films also visited over 125 locations around the country for special screenings and events.
