Why Are Exhibitors Programming This Film?
”What stood out to me was that the writer really knows Pembrokeshire. Most of the characters are caricatures of people you might meet here, and the ‘in jokes’ are relevant to Wales which made it particularly funny. I thought it was the most refreshing Welsh film since ‘Twin Town’. I managed to contact Matt Redd – who wrote the film – soon after I first saw it and asked if he would be available for a Q&A. We even increased the ticket price for the event, which didn’t deter the audience.
There was a real buzz that evening and we made a profit. We had an active marketing campaign by distributing posters and cinema brochures widely throughout the county, targeting those locations used in the film alongside social media, which did attract a new audience as well as our usual audience who may well have been tempted to come despite the ongoing concerns about mixing in public. We had 3 screenings in all, it was very well received and was the best attended cinema event since reopening in over 2 months.
On the advice of FHW we also screened a short film ‘Showdown’ about a young boy with autism who had a passion for Western films which linked with The Toll”
