The following exhibitors received support from Film Hub Wales in 2019/20 for their Welsh film projects:
“Revisiting the past to understand the present and contribute to future local awareness “. For the third year, Phoenix Ton Pentre are developing their year-round audience for Welsh stories on screen. Pairing archive with new releases and sharing their memories of Welsh film through the ages, they will continue to make people aware of their Welsh Film Heritage.
Cardiff Mini Film Festival and Darkened Rooms presented a special screening of The Dark Crystal in one of Cardiff’s most unique buildings, the Masonic Temple – followed by a Q&A with Welsh puppeteer Toby Philpott, also famously known for being half of Jabba the Hut. They also explored Welsh culture through a screening of Jon Jones’ latest release, Last Summer.
Yr Egin presented a series of monthly films, which aimed to develop audiences for non-mainstream indigenous and international film across Carmarthenshire. Celebrating the rich and diverse film industry in Wales and beyond, the programme aimed to appeal to young audiences aged 14-30 by working with the new Yr Egin “Asbri”, filmmaking club.
A Welsh tour of the film Wild Honey Pie! with Director Jamie Adams (+ cast). The roadshow took place in key Welsh cinemas and exhibitors, spreading travel costs across the consortium, and enabling film-making talent to visit more communities.
Canolfan y Celfyddydau, Pontardawe
A screening of Ray & Liz from Welsh producer Jacqui Davies, followed by a Q&A with Director and photographer Richard Billingham. Specially curated programme notes were offered at the event.
With support from Film Hub Wales’ Made in Wales scheme and wider Welsh partners, Bulldog Film Distribution brought William McGregor’s Gwen, an atmospheric folk tale set in the hills of Snowdonia during the industrial revolution, to 21 venues across Wales with select Q&As.

As a new partner to the Hub, the group used our Cinema For All kit hire to screen Karl Francis’ Ms Rhymney Valley with a Q&A, alongside various archive and animation activities.
