Synopsis
In 1999, in his hometown of Bristol, Banksy painted his iconic ‘The Mild, Mild West’ graffiti on a wall in Stokes Croft.
Filmed over six years, The Republic documents the transformation of the area from rundown neighbourhood to The Peoples Republic of Stoke’s Croft. It is an important story of our times recounting the fight by locals to retain control over their community and local culture in an increasingly monocultural corporatised world.
